As a result of current trustees approaching the end of their tenures, Mrs Utterson's Almshouses, a Chippenham charity providing affordable, safe homes in the Lowden area of town have a several vacancies for volunteer trustees. The role involves:
Participation in the governance and administration of the charity as a Trustee
Appointing of contractors.
Appointing beneficiaries/residents
Planning the long term maintenance of the buildings to preserve Mrs Utterson's legacy for future generations.
The role does not involve any work on the buildings themselves, this is always carried out by contractors appointed by trustees.
You will be joining a Board of 7 trustees, of whom 3 complete their tenures in late 2025. The board meets quarterly to review the work of the charity. Board members may also fill additional roles in support of the charity's aims, including Chair of the board, Clerk to the board, Maintenance Coordinator, Treasurer, Residents Welfare Officer.
The role offers a great opportunity to make a difference in the town and get involved in the preservation of what are attractive historic buildings as well as being safe comfortable homes for residents.
The role might suit people that have experience of one or more of the following fields:
Property management
Bookkeeping/Accounting
Business administration
Liaison with the Charity Commission
