In 1884, Mrs Elizabeth Utterson paid for the five Almshouses to be built on land that she had acquired from the Rev. John Rich, then Vicar of Chippenham. The original Indenture states that the aim was to provide accommodation “….. for aged or infirm women who would otherwise be probably compelled to end their days in the Union Workhouse.”

Today the fives homes are held in trust governed by a Charity Commission scheme - registered charity number 201542

BUILDING MAINTENANCE
The Almshouses are beautiful 19th century buildings and are under constant maintenance to ensure that homes are safe and secure for residents and to preserve Mrs Utterson's legacy.
Maintenance and repair works are commissioned by a board of volunteer trustees. To be invited to tender for work please contact us and introduce your company.
